Wild Dogs Madach 2018, Painted Wolf South Africa

In February 1994, Jeremy visited his family in South Africa. His sister, Amanda was working as a wildlife film maker and had met Emma at Lloyd’s Camp. She knew that the camp was looking for a cook and had volunteered his services. He was interviewed by Emma, who recommended him for the job.

During the seven inspirational years, working with Charles Back at Fairview, Jeremy self-funded his post grad degree in wine business at Adelaide University. Emma pursued her photography and the family expanded.

Now making wine of their own since 2005 they just haven’t had the time to look back!

These guys are keen conservationists and work with organisations such as TUSK, and the Endangered Wildlife Trust with a percentage of the takings on the wines going to such causes.

Madach is the slang used over the radio and in general conversation by game rangers in South Africa’s lowveld, the area in and around the famous Kruger National Park. Painted Wolves are very rare in the Kruger Park, despite years of effort to develop a larger population here.

Painted Wolf Madach ‘Hunting’ red is a vibrant cape blend of Pinotage, Shiraz, Merlot, Grenache and Mourvedre. A South African red wine carefully blending grapes that are 70% matured in small oak barrels, with the balance undergoing tank maturation with French oak staves.

Luscious aromas of dark brambly fruit, ripe plum and notes of tobacco combine with a bright, fruit and spice packed palate showing excellent balance and a long, savoury finish.

Fab with potato and leek soup with scallops and truffle, duck in a plum sauce, pulled pork wraps or a hearty winter bean soup
